Colin Jacob began his dance career at the age of 16 in Cleveland, Ohio, in 2010. Under the direction of Christine Meneer at Ballet Theatre of Ohio in Akron, Ohio, he developed his passion for ballet. After two summers attending the International Summer Dance Intensive at Point Park University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he began at the University in the fall of 2012.

During his time at Point Park University, he performed pieces by George Balanchine, Dwight Rhoden, Christopher Huggins, Peter Merz, Garfield Lemonius, Keisha Lalama, Nicholas Petrov, and Ron Tassone, to name a few. Additionally, he had the privilege of competing at the Youth American Grand Prix (YAGP) Ballet Competition, where he placed in the Top 12 regionally as a soloist and placed in the Top 12 in the group category at New York City Finals. His performance was noticed, and he was asked to be a part of the International Ballet Festival of Miami in 2014. He graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance with a concentration in Ballet Technique in the Spring of 2015. After graduation, he danced as a company artist with Merztanz Contemporary Ballet for their summer production.

Following his success at YAGP, he was invited to join the Ballet West Trainee Program in the fall of 2015. After a year of training with Ballet West, he danced nationally as a guest artist, toured and performed with Ballet West II, performed principal roles at the Ballet West Academy showcase, won the regional YAGP Pas de Deux category, and later placed in the Top 6 at the New York City Finals. Colin accepted a position to join the South Carolina Ballet (formerly Columbia City Ballet) in Columbia, South Carolina, under the direction of William Starrett. He spent 3 seasons with the company, being promoted to Demi-Soloist in 2019. Having the pleasure of dancing roles in Starrett’s ballets: “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” (Puck), “The Sleeping Beauty” (Bluebird), “Dracula” (Renfield), and “The Nutcracker” (Nutcracker Prince / Dew Drop Cavalier). He was able to work with other choreographers such as Yusha Sorenzo, Susan Anderson, James Atkinson, Caroline Lewis-Jones, Jerry Openaker, and Stephanie Wilkins, to name a few.

In the fall of 2019, Colin joined Ballet Virginia in Norfolk, Virginia, as a Featured Artist under the direction of Lydia Coco Roberts. He danced roles by Suzanne Long & Janina Michalski in, “The Nutcracker” (Sugar Plum Cavalier), “The Sleeping Beauty” (Prince Desire), Jacquelyn Long’s Pas de Deux, “It Just Keeps Going”, and Fredrick Ashton’s “Les Patineurs” (Blue Boy / White Couple Pas de Deux), and many featured moments of pieces by Lydia Coco Roberts. During the spring of 2020, Colin was invited as a Guest Artist to perform with the Richmond Ballet in Richmond, Virginia, under the direction of Ma Cong (previously Stoner Winslett) and was invited to join the company the following season.

Since joining the Richmond Ballet in 2021, where he continues to dance in the company, Colin has found incredible success and has had the pleasure of working with many notable choreographers in the field. Some of these names include Ma Cong, Dwight Rhoden, George Balanchine, Sir Frederick Ashton, Young Soon Hue, Andrea Schermoly, Katarzyna Skarpetowska, John Butler, Ben Stevenson, Yury Yanowsky, Val Caniparoli, Trey McIntyre, Jennifer Archibald, Nicolo Fonte, Price Suddarth, Christopher Huggins, Malcolm Burn, Tom Mattingly, and David Morse.

In Spring 2026, Colin recently graduated with honors with his Master of Fine Arts in Dance & Choreography at Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey. His article, “Exercises to Strengthen Pirouette Technique," was published in Dance Education in Practice, an online journal associated with the National Dance Education Organization. His interview with Cary O’Dell for the novel “Men in Pink Collars” dissects his experience as a queer, male-identifying artist within the dance spectrum and the challenges he has faced and overcome through his passion for dance. Additionally, he teaches and choreographs around the country in both the concert and competition dance spectrum. Most recently, for his solo exhibition, “In Plain Sight,” for the Richmond First Fridays Cultural Artwalk on Broad Street, and original works for The Studio Company of Richmond Ballet, Point Park University International Summer Dance Intensive, and for The School of Richmond Ballet. He continues to perform, teach, choreograph, and publish nationally, with creative and scholarly work that explores ballet, queer identity, and contemporary choreography.
